“Imagine a true ultra-high-end system that uses the best headphones ever made—electrostatic headphones that can compete with a major $1 million+ hi-fi at a fraction of the cost... but are also a coveted piece of art. This is the Ethereal System,” said Kostas Metaxas, founder and chief designer of the Greek family company Metaxas & Sins, based in Switzerland and headquartered in Amsterdam.

Kostas Metaxas has experience working with electrostats: for example, he created Statix electrostatic headphones to monitor his own audio systems. The Ethereal System electrostatic headphone amplifier is a fully discrete balanced circuit in absolute dual mono. The ultra-low noise offset voltage is 580V, so the model is compatible with Stax, Sennheiser and most other electrostatic headphones. Moreover, Metaxas is already working on its own X1 electrostats.

The Ethereal “head,” by the way, can work as a headphone stand, and the device itself is available in two configurations: with a Tourbillon clock or a built-in DAC. An option with a digital streamer is promised in the near future. The design of the Ethereal System immediately reveals that it belongs to Metaxas & Sins, repeating the style and colors of previous devices for which the company became famous.

Naturally, the creation of mechanics required the latest five-axis CNC equipment. The appearance of the new item is determined by one of Costas’s patterns, Geometrika, consisting of rectangles cutting through the female figure. More patterns have been announced. The price of the new product, as always with Metaxas & Sins, is not stated and depends on many nuances of the future system, which are proposed to be discussed by e-mail.
