SVS sb 2000 pro review

A well-enclosed subwoofer is a wonderful thing. SVS has a wide variety of subwoofer designs and the SVS SB-2000 Pro is part of its newest 2000 series. It features a 12-inch woofer and amplifier rated at 550W (1500W peak). Compact enclosed subwoofers are usually cube-shaped, with a width that is almost the same as the woofer diameter. The SVS SB-2000 Pro measures 37 x 37 x 37 cm, so it's pretty easy to place.

When the enclosed subwoofer is equipped with a powerful amplifier and high-quality speaker, you can expect deep, clear bass. But only if such a system is properly managed. To meet this challenge, the SVS SB-2000 is equipped with a powerful DSP that can be controlled via iOS or Android apps. It has all the settings you need to get the best bass sound from your subwoofer.

SVS sb 2000 pro Features

SB-2000 Pro is best suited for those cases when you need a compact subwoofer with the deepest and most punchy bass. Since multiple subwoofers in a system usually provide tangible benefits, this model's small size and reasonable price make it a good choice for “multi-sub” setups as well. Unpacking the SB-2000 Pro is easy due to its modest size. It weighs 17.5 kg, which indirectly testifies to the quality of the construction, but one person can quite cope with its installation. SVS accompanies its models with detailed installation and configuration instructions, which is very convenient. Thanks to this, even an inexperienced user can easily cope with this work.

The finishing quality of the SVS SB-2000 is also very high. At one time, I was impressed by the black piano lacquer on the JL Audio subwoofer, and now, stroking my reflection in the SVS model, I must admit that it is no worse here. In addition, the new sub has rounded edges and, most importantly, a fabric grill that actually looks much better than the commonly used SVS metal mesh grills.

The SB-2000 Pro takes full advantage of the SB-2000 but comes with a mobile-controlled DSP, a fabric grill, a new 12-inch woofer, and a 10% more powerful amplifier. The result is a subwoofer capable of reproducing the deep low frequencies required for home theater (and some genres of music), combined with the density and precision of bass to convey any piece of music correctly. We can say that truly deep and detailed bass is always necessary for a system if you want to get reliable reproduction of both music and movies.

Listening

No matter how good the parameters of the subwoofer look on paper, they only speak about its potential capabilities. For example, if you don't normally listen to music very loudly, then you may not need very high power output, but you will need a device that can sound deep and rich at low volumes.SVS sb 2000 pro review

I powered the SB-2000 Pro with a Denon AVR-X8500H, which has Audyssey XT32 automatic sound calibration, including bass management. I set the filter to 80Hz and turned on the sub in my 5.1.2 home system. Overall, the subwoofer is very easy to set up and will sound exactly as you would expect from a specialist manufacturer. Perhaps, for this reason, SVS does not say too much about the parameters of its subwoofers, and in our opinion, this is completely justified.

My "regular" system (the one I use when I'm not doing reviews) consists of three subwoofers stacked one on top of the other, each of which uses a pair of oppositely directed 12-woofers. That's roughly the equivalent of six subwoofers like the SB-2000 Pro. What can a single 12-inch woofer subwoofer do against such artillery? Quite a lot, it turns out. Because if you set it up correctly, the SB-2000 Pro is capable of reproducing the same clear, dense, deep bass ... but, of course, not at the same volume level (no one canceled the laws of physics).

The sound of a subwoofer in a room is usually amplified at the lowest frequencies due to an effect called “room amplification,” or resonance. Depending on the size of your room and the position of the subwoofer in it, you can get significant gain at the lowest frequencies, and the SVS control application has a special feature to compensate for this. When you use the equalizer to tune your subwoofer rather than drag and drop to adjust its sound, you need to control it exactly where the listeners are. Controlling the SB-2000 Pro's sound via the app and DSP makes it much easier to place it in the room than on models that lack these features.

Listening to the SVS SB-2000 Pro has shown that it works in the best traditions of SVS and has a percussive and accurate sound. Its bass harmoniously complemented the music, movies, TV shows, and video games. For many systems, the only questions about whether the SB-2000 Pro will fit will be the size of the room and the required peak volume level. If your room is medium-sized (not huge) and you don't need a reference volume level (like in a concert or in a real cinema), this unit will be completely in place. But if you need more headroom over time, you can always add another SB-2000 to the system - it's better than buying a larger subwoofer in terms of ease of placement and setup.

While testing the subwoofer, I watched films in my systems such as Hunt for Red October, Ready Player One, Mortal Kombat Legends, Mad Max Fury Road, and some others, rich in special effects. I also listened to a lot of music of various genres and I must note that the SVS subwoofer very accurately conveys electronic music with powerful infra-bass. The presence of DSP does not lead to audible distortions or restrictions in the sound but allows the most efficient use of the “bass + amplifier” bundle.

Since I already mentioned the possibility of using multiple subs in the system, let's pay a little more attention to this issue. In fact, this is a great way to improve bass response and overall sound quality while reducing distortion. Moreover, the use of multiple subwoofers will reduce the effect of room resonances if the subs are installed in a high enough rack. And at the same time, in terms of area, such a structure will take up no more space than one subwoofer.

Stacking subwoofers is really nothing new, and this approach has been used with success in high-end stereos and home theater systems alike. And if you need a lot of very deep bass for a large room, then, given the DSP control, easy setup, and nice looks, it makes much more sense, for example, to use three SB-2000 Pros instead of one JL Audio E112 for about the same amount.SVS sb 2000 review  Either way, a well-enclosed subwoofer rack sounds very powerful and accurate, and the SB-2000 Pro is a great example of this.

Conclusion

Most people who watch movies and listen to music in their living room need one good subwoofer to complete their audio system. Such that it reproduces the lower octaves, inaccessible to the speakers, and at the same time remained almost invisible. If that's exactly what you want, then the SVS SB 2000 is a great choice. SVS is the leading brand in this Subwoofer Game, and its products are generally reliable, usable, and sound quality. As far as functionality is concerned, you won't find similar capabilities on other models in this price range - the Pro designation is not just a marketing gimmick here. When using a measurement microphone, you can truly tune the SB-2000 Pro with professional precision. Considering all of the above,
