FiiO KA2 headphone DAC Amplifier

The KA2 DAC and Amplifier completes FiiO's KA mini-portable series, with the KA1 and KA3 already available, with the "medium" sample approaching the older one, according to FiiO. A dongle is proposed to be used not only as a mobile device but also as a full-fledged Hi-Fi component.

For this purpose, you can choose one of two versions of the novelty - with a USB-C connector or Apple Lightning. Instead of an onboard connector, a detachable cable about 70 mm long is mounted on an aluminum dongle case. All this together weighs 12.3 g and with dimensions of 40 x 15 x 12 mm it is quite capable of getting lost in a pocket.

The FiiO KA2 Portable DAC Amplifier is compatible with Apple iOS, Google Android, Microsoft Windows, and Apple macOS. On board is a dual DAC from Cirrus Logic CS43131 with dual decoding, capable of processing PCM up to 32 bit / 384 kHz, as well as DSD up to DSD256 inclusive. The novelty is certified by the Japan Audio Association JAS and the Consumer Electronics Association CEA.

The FiiO Control app, available for Apple iOS or Google Android, lets you choose from five filters. The balanced analog output stage terminates with a 4.4mm Pentaconn connector. With a headphone impedance of 32 ohms, the built-in amplifier is capable of delivering up to 153 mW of power to them. FiiO believes that this is enough "for the smooth operation of a wide variety of headphone models."

There are no controls on the device itself - everything that is needed is done through the application. But there is an indicator LED: the color indicates the type of digital signal being reproduced.

In Europe, the price of the FiiO KA2 headphone DAC amplifier was about 70 euros.
