8K Association complements the list of requirements for 8K TV

The 8K Association (8KA) has released an updated list of requirements for 8K TVs. It will be applied from 2022. In addition to existing requirements, the 8K Association Certified logo will now include devices supporting more video standards (VRR, AV1 and VVC - full list not yet published).

"Gaming" requirements will now include Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) over HDMI 2.1 and Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM). The association noted that 8K will be in great demand among game lovers. 8KA is also investigating the use of External Contrast Ratio (ACR), an adaptive algorithm that takes into account viewing conditions.

To date, more than 80 TV models have been certified by 8KA. At the same time, it is unclear what will happen after the adoption of additional requirements - recertification or certification with the indication of the year.

In addition, content-producing company Amazon Prime Video, testing service provider UL (Underwriter Laboratory) and major TV maker Changhong have recently joined, according to 8KA. Much more complete information on the work of 8KA should appear at CES 2022.
