Grado Reference RS1x and RS2x headphones: 4th generation X Driver with multi-wood ear cups

The fourth-generation X drivers installed in the headphones of the American company Grado Labs are the result of the consistent development of the proprietary speaker concept over 30 years.

New items - models RS1x and RS2x - are equipped with modified X-drivers with a diameter of 50 and 44 mm, respectively. Moreover, Grado assured that the multilayer wooden structure of the cups enhanced the capabilities of the emitters

As for the X Driver, which was last updated 6 years ago, according to Grado, the speakers received lightweight coils in reinforced magnetic systems. The membrane geometry has also been optimized.

The result for the older model is a frequency response of 12-30,000 Hz with a sensitivity of 99.8 dB SPL per 1 mW. The youngest novelty RS2x is not far behind: 14-28,000 Hz and the same 99.8 dB SPL. The resistance of both new products is quite democratic: 38 ohms.

The cups of both models are non-trivial designs made from combinations of several types of wood. The RS1x has a maple body with a hemp inside and a cocobolo outer ring. According to Grado, it was this combination that provided the correct tonal balance. For the same purpose, the RS2x cups are made of maple with hemp inside.

In addition, the headbands have been changed in the design of both new products, and the leather is framed with white stitching. The cables were also updated - Grado emphasized their strength and the efficiency of the 8-core structure. Both models should go on sale in December.

In the UK, the Grado Reference RS1x will retail for £ 800 and the RS2x for £ 600.
