DALI Epikore 11 floorstanders: SMC Gen-2 to the max

DALI engineers upgraded their Soft Magnetic Compound technology to the SMC Gen-2 version and equipped the Epikore 11 floorstanders with it. This model can be considered the “apogee of SMC”, although SMC Gen-2 was first used in the flagship DALI Kore systems last year. This proprietary magnetic compound dramatically reduces hysteresis, flux modulation, eddy currents and thermal dependency in magnetic systems.

It drives four 8-inch woofers and a 6.5-inch Epikore 11 midrange driver, equipped with proprietary paper and wood fiber cones. This, according to DALI, led to a radical reduction in distortion and improved dynamics. The midrange cone received the same profile as the similar radiator in Kore. The resulting picture, or rather, the sound range, was supplemented by the Kore EVO-K hybrid tweeter from an improved version of the ultra-thin ribbon super tweeter and a 35 mm soft dome tweeter.

Another highlight of the Epikore 11's use of SMC is the crossover inductors. With SMC cores, they showed reduced DC resistance, even when compared to standard air-core products. The signal to the crossovers comes from the upgraded speaker cable terminals, which have become more grippy for reliable contact both for lugs and for simply bare wires.

The parts and walls of the Epikore 11 cabinet are made of acoustically inert and rigid materials. Dual phase inverter ports are designed to form low frequencies without additional distortion. Dali Epikore speakers are available in three glossy finishes: black, maroon and walnut veneer. The start of sales is scheduled for August.

The floorstanding speakers DALI Epikore 11 will cost 40,000 euros.
