Spotify has risen in price around the world

Popular streaming service Spotify has announced price increases for Premium subscriptions and more. To be fair, Spotify's competitors Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music have already raised their "$10" subscriptions to a not-so-round $11. Spotify in this sense lasted the longest: a Premium Single subscription cost "ten" from the very start, for more than a decade. In some parts of Europe, the subscription price has also increased, from $6.99 to $7.99, for example.

A year ago, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek cheered: “When our competitors raise their prices, it’s really good for us.” And he immediately admitted that in 2023 Spotify will raise prices. What actually happened: Premium Family and Student subscriptions also went up by a dollar, to $17 and $6, respectively, and Premium Duo even by $2 a month and now costs $15.

However, this is unlikely to affect the five million Spotify users of Spotify worldwide, noted in the company's report as of early 2023. Psychologically, listeners have long been ready for a rise in price - the prices for everything else are not the same as 10 years ago. Spotify will inform each of its subscribers individually about the upcoming price change by e-mail.
