Lova Hultén's Desert Songs

Swedish designer Love Hultén presented his next project called Desert Songs - "Songs of the Desert". This is a solid addition to Hulten's collection of unusual audio devices and electronic musical instruments, which are very difficult to classify.

This time the inventor tried to get music from living cacti. Plants are connected to electrodes that allow measuring fluctuations in electrical parameters depending on stimuli such as, for example, the sound of music.

The signal is converted to midi format, then sent to the Korg NTS-1 synthesizer from the proprietary DIY kit, and you can hear it right there. The name "Songs of the Desert" is quite logical (well, of course, these are cacti). To implement the project, a serious unit was created in the form of a glazed box for various cacti, equipped with appropriate electronics with a dial indicator, all sorts of toggle switches, regulators, connectors, and even a screen.

According to the inventor himself, cacti turned out to be the most susceptible representatives of the flora, well suited for this technology. Apparently, those who wish to enjoy the resulting effect can purchase this device from its creator. True, the price of Desert Songs is not available on the author's website. And the cacti are still a bit pitiful.
