Home theater test Hisense

100L9G, Digis Audio SG-1, Miller&Kreisel Movie 5.1: forget you're at home

If the legs do not lead to the cinema, then you can bring the cinema to you

From home to the cinema. From cinema to home. They say that such forced marches are still popular. Although, it would seem, how many decades this entertainment? And his popularity does not suffer in any way, and on the contrary, it is steadily growing. It grows and goes through certain stages on its way.

At first, all this was a curiosity, and everyone went to look at the black-and-white men running along the stretched sheet to the cannonade of the piano: the process itself was more important than the plot. Later, when the wow effect passed, the era of directing began. Comedies, tragedies and other circumstances that are able to captivate the viewer - the bet on the plot played, found its place and development.

Then the request for a “beautiful picture” and the corresponding voice acting became relevant. We leave the primitive, add colors both here and there - it's done! It can be said that cinemas at that moment experienced a rebirth and with a vengeance began to fight for their viewers.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

What's next? There is an intricate plot, there is a beautiful picture, the sound is appropriate. It is clear that development in all three directions continues to this day, but another question has logically arisen: the quality of image and sound transmission to the viewer.

We will not go through all the points of this stage, but we will stop where progress has led us to date:

Home is like in the movies

But let's immediately step over the step of the mass market, which at one time pretty much spoiled the reputation of home theaters. Five funny (and sometimes even beautiful) speakers and one no less outstanding subwoofer, packed in one box, often sounded like “every man for himself”. After such an experience, few people risked going after another similar kit, but more expensive and better. What came of it, we can see with our own eyes: the era of such systems "5.1 and a microphone for karaoke as a gift" has irretrievably gone, leaving traces on various flea markets.

Now everything is solid. Every self-respecting speaker manufacturer gives the user the opportunity to expand their system: from stereo to multi-channel sound in a home theater - just a couple of clicks. This is already much more serious than "a karaoke microphone as a gift", and the sound in the end is incomparably better. What remains to be added? Beautiful, high-quality picture, of course.

And here's what happens: cinema, like any other art form, is looking for the best way to present itself to the admirer. The most intricate plots and all the advanced technologies are used. But today we are only interested in the second point. Therefore, we decided to assemble a home theater system that could meet fairly high requirements, but at the same time had a reasonable balance of sufficiency. The line is thin, but the title of this chapter served as the starting point for us - and not a step away. So let's get started.

Nice picture

We go with trump cards: a laser TV with a diagonal of 100 inches. “Hey, you promised the edge and reasonable sufficiency!” the reader may object. Yes, we promised, and we are not going to break our promises. We even have arguments on this topic.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

Hisense had to register 1,366 patents and 531 laser TV licenses in order to release the technology. But why Hisense 100L9G? After all, the company has other laser TVs, simpler and cheaper. And in general, why a laser TV?

First, it's beautiful. And if we return to our framework, then “firstly” will still not change - this is beautiful. Beautiful from any angle, no matter how you approach it: a thin screen that fits close to the wall, and no wires; short throw laser projector with a futuristic touch in design; well? and the picture - its beauty now plays a decisive role.

Recall the principle of operation of this “TV”: in fact, this is a set of a short-focus laser projector and a special screen. To be honest, the word "TV" in the name of the kit somehow grounds it, making the Hisense 100L9G something obvious to the buyer. But the obvious is often unbelievable - it's worth believing, it's worth seeing.

A system of three lasers with a total brightness of 2,800 lm, each serving its own letter from the RGB abbreviation. This arrangement produces a natural, bright and rich image with an abyss of tones and midtones. Next is a micro-mirror chip that collects and builds a picture on the screen in 4K Ultra HD resolution, while simultaneously supporting HDR / HDR10 / HDR10+.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

The “head” of the device is not just a shell for a laser: it has all the necessary connectors for switching, including a TV tuner (a TV, after all). In addition to this, there is all the functionality of Smart TV and a pair of built-in speakers with a power of 40 W, also with support for Dolby Atmos algorithms.

The screen is also not simple: ALR technology is used here, which reflects the light of the projector in a direction, towards the viewer. And all other light sources will be left out of work - ALR scatters the excess so that it would be discourteous to spoil a beautiful picture. We talked about how such a screen works in a separate test of another model - 100L5G.

And here our choice is Hisense 100L9G. It will also be the most expensive component of this home theater system, because you can’t save on the beauty of the picture. As well as for health, because contemplating reflected light is a completely natural activity for our eyes, but for a long time looking at huge luminous panels is not.

Appropriate AV receiver

It was difficult, but a solution was found. Everyone knows what is happening with AV receivers now: today they are, tomorrow they are gone. The day after tomorrow - again no. But we found an option for which this scheme does not work: Digis Audio SG-1. It is stable and, taking into account all the possibilities and functionality, it is quite adequate and “in the market”.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

What is required from the AV receiver? Get content via HDMI, take your audio, give your TV the video unchanged. This is the base. Then our favorite audiophile tricks come into play: power, sound quality, and here we can also include multi-channel audio formats.

Let's start with the basics: this AV receiver supports more than 10 speaker connection configurations - from your favorite stereo 2.0 to almost top-end 7.1.4. But we immediately take into account that the Digis Audio SG-1 has seven amplifiers, we can take the remaining four channels from the processor. For their work, you will need an additional multi-channel power amplifier - and this already looks like going beyond our scope. But we limit ourselves to this within the framework of the test, but in real life we have complete freedom of action, and Digis Audio SG-1 allows it.

The supported audio formats are declared appropriate: in the list you can find all the necessary and required, and even rare ones. There are Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, DTS and TrueHD; it is possible to distribute the audio track across all available channels, or go to "Direct" and enjoy the original track format. The declared power is 150 W for each of the 7 channels. Yes, Class H is capable of that.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

Otherwise, Digis Audio SG-1 remains true to tradition: auto sound calibration (microphone included), parametric equalizer; support for HDMI ARC, 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR10. There is even karaoke here! But this is not the case when "a microphone is a gift", rest assured.

Appropriate acoustics

We solved this issue immediately, cardinally and radically: the Miller&Kreisel (MK Sound) Movie 5.1 kit, period. After all, this is a company that stands at the origins of acoustics for multi-channel sound. A company that equips the best cinema halls and the best sound recording studios with acoustics.

Very modest in size, but worthy in content, the kit includes:

1. MK Sound LCR K50 - there are three of them, they act as front speakers and a center channel;

2. MK Sound K40 Tripole - a pair of rear tripole speakers;

3. MK Sound V8 - eight-inch active subwoofer.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

Acoustics is made without emphasis on design and beauty, even the set has only one color - black. But in this chapter, sound is much more important to us. Although at first glance it seems: what is so special you can expect from 1-inch fiberglass tweeters and drivers measuring only 4 inches?

Let's start with the fact that all five columns are made in the design of a "closed box". Next up is perfect phase matching and Super Fast Deep Bass (yes, that's what they really called the technology) for the subwoofer. And the K40 tripole acoustics can generally be considered a unique solution: thanks to the trapezoidal shape and two full-range speakers on the sides of this trapezoid, you can place them right behind the listener without a doubt, even if the viewing place is against the wall. Such versatility, together with the professional level of the company, simply leaves us no other choice.

The pair of high-altitude channels that we will use are also produced by MK Sound - these are IW5 built-in acoustics: we can say that these are the same LCR 50K, only without the case.

Now the limits of the test are set: the receiver and acoustics are warmed up, the lasers sparkle playfully, and the native, tested Oppo UDP-203, which turned out to be the source of media content, is already loaded with both hard drives and Blu-Ray drives. It's time to get started.

From home to cinema

It turns out interesting. If you turn off the light in the room where the test is taking place, you quickly forget where you are. It seems that somewhere nearby you will hear the crunch of popcorn and the hiss of soda. The first merit in this is the large screen, which is already comfortably perceived from 4-5 meters.

"Bohemian Rhapsody", 4K - immediately after a short introduction, it begins to drag you into the plot (directors / screenwriters are also on the alert). The film is dubbed, with a 5.1 format track - these parameters were carefully shown to us by the Digis Audio SG-1 receiver just before the beginning of the picture.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

What we get from the sound: amazing punch and accuracy, purity and volume. Once again, we are convinced that the MK Sound Movie 5.1 acoustic kit is not worth looking at - you need to listen to it. The timbre of the voices is correct, the dialogues are distinct, Freddie's songs are beautiful. The sound field is simply a monolith that surrounds the listener smoothly and evenly.

You can cheat and try out the track upscale to 7.1. The sound picture changes dramatically: we lose some of the accuracy and sharpness, but we add more volume in all directions. The effect is interesting, but in Direct the sound is perceived more whole.

What we get from the picture: no surprises here. What can you expect from a state-of-the-art laser TV? The picture is juicy. Soft and pleasant, with the proper level of sharpness and without a single hint of excessive sharpness. Watching a movie on such a TV, you relax not only with your mind, but also with your body: in your eyes - natural colors and a smooth change of frame, in your mind - “no, Freddie, do not agree to this contract, please!”

"Top Gun: Maverick", 4K - also in professional dubbing, and in the same 5.1 sound format.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

Long dialogues, gatherings in bars, romance in hangars - that's not what we came here for. Although the film is very good in this regard, the frames are set wisely, and will easily catch the connoisseurs of “frame for the sake of frame”. But we're heading for the denouement, where the roar of fighter jets, dialogue and explosions vie for space in the speakers.

What we get from the sound: here, first of all, I would like to highlight the MK Sound V8 subwoofer. I even had to pause the movie, turn on the lights and inspect the subwoofer again: where does it get this bass from? Of course, in the Super Fast Deep Bass technology, the word "Deep" is partially limited by the physical parameters of the case, but he honestly gave out his 30 Hz. But “Super Fast” gives the bass an excellent speed and saves the listener from intrusive broaches.

On the other hand, the test room has an intimidating area for small subwoofers - about 40 m². But the MK Sound V8 proved to be no shy one and stubbornly filled the space with high-quality bass, while having more than a quarter of the power in reserve.

“Ready for a dash,” a voice in the pilots’ helmets sounds, and you begin to prepare with them. "9.4 G", - shows the g-force sensor, and the sub in the company of satellites makes it possible to understand that the pilot is now very unhappy.

Clear and coherent, regardless of the volume level - we love this sound. The system easily handles both high volume levels and sharp changes in dynamic range. This is a real level! And it's good that the Maverick pilot survived, we were really worried.

By the way, the upscale to 7.1 did a good job here: the fighters seemed to burst into the room, and the heat traps hovered somewhere overhead.

What we get from the picture: the explosion of an underground base - for the sake of this moment it is worth watching a movie on the Hisense 100L9G screen. The feeling that you are about to fall through there with a test room and a subwoofer thug.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

It is interesting how the visual sensations from a laser TV change the perception of what is happening on the screen. The effect is similar to listening to High-End stereo in a well-prepared room: you need to make certain efforts on yourself in order to analyze. And without this, you just dive into the depths, and come what may. Hisense 100L9G works according to the same scheme: it takes all the attention to itself and lets you float freely according to the plot of the film. And most importantly - no one rustles a chocolate bar in the next row.

Blu-ray "Hans Zimmer - Live In Prague", Dolby Atmos. We could not ignore the musical material. Especially when this wonderful live is at hand in a popular multi-channel format.

What we get from the sound: complete immersion in the atmosphere of the hall! Here is the case when it would be fair to say "sound picture" and not just a scene. This is a 3D puzzle, carefully assembled for you by the efforts of the Digis Audio SG-1 AV receiver and the MK Sound Movie 5.1 acoustics kit.

Home theater test Hisense: forget you're at home

What we get from the picture: we get confirmation that Hisense 100L9G can adequately work out Full HD. The same naturalness and smoothness, rich, but not "poisonous" color palette.

Conclusion

We take the best AV receiver, a decent set of acoustics with professional roots and a picture without compromise - this is the recipe for a great home theater. And the frames - they only played a role when choosing a kit. When this cinema system is assembled, connected and tested, you will understand that there really are no frames: you are not at home, you are at the cinema!

Pros

Hisense 100L9G: image quality, dimensions, appearance of the kit, ease of installation, full-fledged TV functionality, high light source life;

Digis Audio SG-1: sound, high power, wide functionality, reasonable price;

MK Sound Movie 5.1: the sound is impressive; compact dimensions; small but powerful subwoofer with quality bass

Cons

Hisense 100L9G: high price. But even against the background of the cost of "projector + screen" sets with a similar picture quality, it looks acceptable;

Digis Audio SG-1: a simple complete microphone for sound calibration; I would like the backlight of the buttons on the remote control;

MK Sound Movie 5.1: Black only
