Canadian R&B artist Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known under the pseudonym The Weeknd, has released Vinyl Blade with American art group MSCHF . It looks like a red-painted replacement blade for a circular saw. The shape of the teeth - most likely for cutting wood.

But first impressions are deceiving. Actually Vinyl Blade is a full 7" single and if you look closely you can even see the audio track on it. The only track recorded there is “Out Of Time”, and not on vinyl, but on copper-clad steel. "Vinyl Blade has sharp edges and is significantly heavier than a standard vinyl record," warns future MSCHF owners.

Vinyl Blade will be released in a limited edition of only 25 pieces. It will be sold at auction. The packaging of the disc is somewhat reminiscent of the packaging of professional woodworking equipment. In any case, a special plastic case is provided to protect against contact with sharp teeth.

This is where the similarity with a circular saw ends. There is even a warning printed for future owners: “Do not use Vinyl Blade on a saw. The blade is not designed and intended for use as a functional saw blade. Attempting to use the Vinyl Blade on a saw could result in serious injury or death. Handle with care and only play at 33 RPM.”
