Live broadcasts available in the main application are what awaits subscribers of the Spotify streaming service. iOS developer Steve Moser dug up the data while digging into the beta version of the Spotify iPhone app — and the feature is coming soon.

Previously, Spotify was able to delight subscribers with live performances, live streaming and live programming in a separate Greenroom app. Now Greenroom will be renamed Spotify Live. It will remain a separate app, but some of its functionality will be available in the main Spotyify app.

“Listeners will be able to join a Spotify live performance from the artist’s page, and to chat with the artist or participate in the broadcast, they will need to go to the Spotify Live app,” the site says. Such broadcasts include not only live music performances, but also various podcasts and discussions, the popularity of which has increased with the advent of the Clubhouse service.

It's worth remembering that CEO Daniel Ek believes that live streaming will soon be ubiquitous. “I feel the same way about live audio as I do about video stories, which every major platform uses as a way for audiences to communicate,” he said of Greenroom. “I expect live audio to appear on all platforms.”
